Residential

With technology advancing more and more every day, homes are susceptible to more lightning related damage than ever. Aside from destroying chimneys, starting fires, and exploding concrete, lightning can also damage sensitive electronics such as computers and televisions or other appliances in your home. Nothing can provide peace of mind like a properly installed lightning protection system.

Whether it is a new or an existing home, a lightning protection system can be installed inconspicuously while still providing the needed protection. In existing homes, cables can be run in hidden areas such as roof valleys and behind downspouts. In new homes, almost the entire system can be run in attic spaces and inside of walls with only air terminals (lightning rods) exposed. Decorative finals can even be used instead of conventional lightning rods to provide an added architectural feature to your home’s design.

All of HLP System’s designs and installations meet and exceed Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes. If desired, your home can even be inspected by a UL representative after the installation of the lightning protection and be awarded a UL Master Label certifying that the system is to their standards.

Protection for all shapes and sizes:

Protection for the large modern home extends beyond the lightning rods and must take into consideration the sensitive electronics and alarm systems that are becoming commonplace. Low voltage devices require an additional level of transient protection. In today's society, living days, without our electronic devices damaged from a lightning strike, can be devastating.

There is no project that is too big or too small for HLP Systems. Even the average home is not immune to the devastating effects of lightning. Protection of every residential structure includes lightning rods, electrical surge and transient suppression and cable or telephone line suppression. Do not assume that the lightning rods will stop a surge on the telephone line. Without suppression, the surge over those lines can extensively damage your home from the inside out.

The home in the country, out in the woods or on a lake presents a peace of mind issue. Since owners of these homes are away for extended periods of time, they want to know that should a storm pass through, they don't have to worry about a hole in the roof, a lost chimney or worse yet a structural fire.

Architects all across the country rely on the expertise of HLP Systems for designs for not only the new home, but for the restored landmark or estate home. Design criteria assume maximum protection with minimal aesthetic detraction. Many designs often create components that comply with standards as well as add to the architectural beauty of a home.

The foundation of the lightning protection business was the residential and rural markets. Many years ago, lightning protection experts traveled the back roads protecting rural homes and farms. While barns have changed over the years, HLP Systems can design and install a system to bring back the look of a time gone by, right down to the glass ball ornaments.

Complete residential protection may include a large tree that spreads over the roof of a home. Many times, lightning may strike high in a tree and while the branch, or even the entire tree, is falling on the house, the discharge is arching to the house causing further damage. Just because you have a tree, does not mean you are protected. In reality, every tree within 10 feet of a house should have lightning protection to keep the home safe.
