For often less than 1% of the total building cost, HLP Systems can provide a lightning protection system that is safe and effective. We can design and install all necessary components for a quality system including grounding and transient voltage surge suppression. 

All of HLP System’s designs and installations meet and exceed Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes. If desired, your business can even be inspected by a UL representative after the installation of the lightning protection and be awarded a UL Master Label certifying that the system is to their standards.

SEARS TOWER - The Sears Tower is an example of the heights that HLP Systems will go to provide the best protection available. High-rise structural steel buildings such as Sears only pose a difficulty due to their height. As long as the structure is electrically continuous to the ground, there is no need to run separate down conductor cables. Once the grounding is installed during the beginning of construction, the roof work only needs to be connected to the top of the steel structure. It is not uncommon for a tall, slender structure to take only a few working days to protect over the entire duration of the project.

ARGONNE NATIONAL LABORATORY - HLP Systems has the expertise to install the elaborate grounding systems that are required for facilities that need a static free environment. Extensive grounding, along with a properly designed and installed lightning protection system, gives Argonne National Laboratories the peace of mind to run their tests and experiments with the knowledge that millions of dollars in equipment are properly safeguarded.

STATE FARM INSURANCE - HLP Systems has the experience to professionally assist in the design and installation of extensive office campus projects such as the State Farm Project in Bloomington, Illinois. Proper systems design for large projects such as this one includes not only the protection of the building, but also the safety of the thousands of office employees inside. Similar projects include large office facilities for Sears and Allstate Insurance.

SHERATON CHICAGO HOTEL - The proper protection of hotel facilities is a great concern to their owners. Along with the structural protection for the building, hotel owners are concerned for the safety of their customers. High-rise hotels, by nature, have evacuation concerns should there be a disaster on an upper floor. Proper protection of the hotel is extended to the grounding of the swimming pool and spa areas where there is a concern over electric shock or electrocution in case of a lightning strike.

MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART - The museum is a great example of design not only for the building, but also for the lightning protection. Great care was taken to ensure that the lightning protection components were kept as inconspicuous as possible. On very high profile structures, HLP Systems continually works with the architects and engineers to design functional lightning protection systems that do not detract from the architectural splendor of the structure.

GOLF COURSES - The protection of golf courses includes more than just properly protecting the clubhouse facility. Concern is necessary for the golfer that may be stranded on the golf course during a severe thunderstorm. HLP Systems can protect everything on the golf course from the clubhouse to the shelters, halfway houses, maintenance facilities, cart barns, wells, sprinkler systems and even the trees.
